Attacks

-
- - Shabon
Spray
With this attack, Mercury fogs up a whole area.
This is the only attack that she possesses in
the first season, and it's obviously a very
defensive one. It allows the senshi to hide from
their enemy momentarily in order to think up
strategy. Starting with this attack, one
can tell that Mercury is to be the defensive
part of the team.
- - - Shabon Spray
Freezing
With this, Sailormercury powers up her Shabon
Spray. It is her first somewhat offensive
attack (though isn't as powerful as
Jupiter's or Mars' attacks). With this attack,
the Shabon Spray freezes the intended target.
- - - Shine Aqua Illusion
Another freeze-centered attack. This attack
generates a pillar of water that usually freezes
the opponent, it's used sometimes to freeze objects
as well.
- - - Mercury Aqua Rhapsody
One of my favorite attacks. As all Sailor Stars
season attacks are really cool, so is this one. This is probably the first attack that
Mercury gets that is a significantly powerful
offensive. She whips out a harp made out of
water and sends a bunch of water at the enemy.

in Depth

Ami
goes to Juuban Junior High School (and later the high school) in Minato-Ku with
Usagi, Makoto, and Minako. We first met Ami when
she is fourteen years old and already a genius with
an IQ said to be 300. Ami's often seen telling others (especially
Usagi and Minako)
to study and she attends a lot of cram classes herself. Before becoming a
senshi, it seemed all Ami had was her books and
her intellect; she didn't have a lot of friends
due to being shy and not too outgoing.
Ami lives in a luxurious apartment with her mother, a doctor. Her father is a painter. She likes to play chess (she's unbeatable) and she's an amazing swimmer taught by her father. Her attacks correspond to her love for swimming quite well; they all have something to do with water. Ami dreams to follow in her mother's footsteps and be a doctor someday, and it figures with that kind of intellect and drive for learning, she'll be able to reach that goal. Ami is the kind of student that every teacher would love. She's hardworking and gets excellent grades on her tests, scoring at the top of her class without exception.
Mercury was the second senshi to be found by Luna. Ami regularly attended one of the most prestigious cram schools in the city, which became one of Jedite's energy-stealing schemes. During the battle between Jedite's youma and Sailormoon, the planetary symbol of Mercury appeared on Ami's forehead, and Luna realized she was a senshi. Mercury used her Shabon Spray and Sailormoon finished the monster off. Needless to say, Usagi was relieved that she had a companion to not only support her with senshi business, but who was smart and could help her study for her tests and do her homework.
Although Ami's dream of being a doctor is one of the most
intellectually demanding jobs a person can choose, Ami has the advantage of
being born with an amazingly high IQ, rumored to be around 300. For people who
really don't understand how amazing this is, let me explain: Einstein is
projected to have an IQ of 161 and the highest IQ according to the Guinness Book
of World Records is 228 (Marilyn Vos Savant). Yes, this is only possible in
anime. Aside from that particular genetic
gift, Ami is also a very studious and responsible girl who seems to take the
greatest joy in learning for the sake of learning. Her sense of responsibility
extends to her friends, whom she generously helps with their studies to
make sure they are doing well.

Studying
seems to be a big part of Ami's life, but her friends are also very important to her. In one episode she gives up a chance to study abroad
in order to stay with her friends.
Of all the inner senshi Ami's the most passive. This is not to say that she isn't a good fighter. In many cases it is her level head that prevails in some sticky situations. Her brains are also an enormous help; instead of being very focused on one area of study like many geniuses tend to be, Ami loves all subjects and it is this versatility that allows her to be a great help.
However, one weakness of Ami's is that she embarrasses easily and has a terrible time with love letters and other dealings of the heart. She once got an anonymous love letter and freaked out. It consumed her mind for days; she could focus on nothing else. Ami blushes all the time and, this part of her personality is focused on more in the Sailor Stars season, tends to jump to conclusions quickly, especially when it has to do with situations regarding Usagi and Seiya. In Sailor Stars it is also evident that Ami doesn't bode well with rivals. She and Taiki are always at odds with each other while playing cards or various other board games.
As a Sailor Senshi, Mercury controls the element of water and her attacks are probably the weakest of all the senshi; her first attack was a defensive maneuver. Later on she learns more forceful attacks but her greatest contribution is still that of her mind, as well as a mini computer and visor.
