- - - Silence Glaive Surprise
In the anime, Sailorsaturn raises her glaive up to the sky, and
white light appears. Everything goes silent as she slams her glaive into the
ground, and then a loud noise is heard. To show how powerful it is in the anime,
Sailormoon falls over with the impact while she's standing very far away.

This is Sailorsaturn's defensive attack. When she shouts the words, a force field
appears around her or whoever she wishes it to appear around.

In her everyday, normal human form, Hotaru has this healing power where she can heal wounds
with the touch of her hand. This is the reason her schoolmates
think she is weird because the power frightens them.

Different from the Silence Wall, this is an involuntary, mysterious purple glow
that surrounds Hotaru and protects her whenever harm comes near.

in Depth
Our
story begins at a time long ago. Professor Tomoe was touring some of his
colleagues in his science lab to show them an
experiment, his young daughter Hotaru
tagging along. Something went wrong with the
experiment and it exploded, killing everyone
around Tomoe, including Hotaru. Devastated, Professor
Tomoe was greeted by one of Pharaoh 90's supporters who gave him hope. Tomoe
ended up selling his soul to the demon to gain back his daughter. Hotaru was
resurrected and grew up not-so-normally, unaware of the essence known as Mistress 9 that was
living inside of her to be awakened later on.
Tomoe Hotaru is a shy girl that attends Mugen Gakuen school. She doesn't have many friends there and is often picked on because of her strange power to heal things with her touch. Many of her classmates find this gross or weird, and therefore generally avoid her. Hotaru's body is somewhat weak (this could be attributed to Mistress 9 living inside of her) and tires very easily, and is often found gasping for breathe.
To say that Hotaru grew up leading a normal life would be going far beyond lying. Her peers dubbed her as an outcast and her classmates in her rich, snobbish school stayed far away from her or picked on her. So she spent much time at home and developed a taste for collecting lamps. Though she isn't the most socially active child, she's not inept either; when Chibiusa approached her and became her friend, Hotaru was thrilled to have someone she could spend time with. To Hotaru's surprise, when Chibiusa fell and cut herself and Hotaru used her healing power, Chibiusa didn't think she was gross or weird, but was amazed. From then on the two became great friends, even when things got complicated and people often told Chibiusa to avoid Hotaru, they stuck together.
Hotaru lives in a mansion with her father Professor Tomoe and
his lab assistant Kaolinite, spending most of the time in her room reading books
or what not. Hotaru's mother was killed when she was young,
and Kaolinite often mistreats her. Hotaru's lack of outdoor activity is the cause of her sickly pale,
white skin. When not in her school uniform, she is usually seen clad in black or
mostly black apparel, which contrasts greatly with her skin.
Soon after
Hotaru and Chibiusa's friendship developed, Mistress 9 revealed
herself after forcing Hotaru to swallow Chibiusa's heart crystal. Mistress 9
then took over Hotaru's body, locking Hotaru's actual self away deep inside.
Serving under Pharaoh 90's plan to destroy the world, Mistress 9 was his Silent
Messiah. When the outer senshi realized that the messiah was Mistress 9, they
decided it was best to kill her. Usagi stopped them because she knew that Hotaru was still
there and that she had the strength to take back control
of her body.
Eventually, Hotaru did. She killed Mistress 9 and became Sailorsaturn, deciding it was up to her to destroy Pharaoh 90 and save the same world that dubbed her an outcast. Usagi didn't want Hotaru to die, but Hotaru would not let Usagi stop her, and used her Silence Glaive to warn Usagi off. In the end, Usagi came back holding a baby in her arms: the baby Hotaru. Michiru and Haruka decided to raise Hotaru since her father seemed unstable. The young girl remembered nothing of her previous life as a senshi until one night later in the series, where the essence of Sailorsaturn came and restored all of her memories, reviving the senshi that was within her.
Tomoe Hotaru (Firefly of the Soil) is the last senshi to be awakened. Sailorsaturn is the soldier of said planet: Saturn. She is said to be the senshi that must never awaken, for if she does, the end of the universe is soon to follow. Her duty is to lead the all life towards death. This was interpreted incorrectly by both the outer senshi and many of the fans. While Hotaru is the senshi that leaves all life towards death, she is also the soldier of rebirth. Whereas Hotaru is weak in her human form, Saturn is one of the strongest in her senshi form.
Hotaru's an extremely sweet girl. She has no ill will towards anyone and is one of the cutest characters in the series, if I may say so myself. Hotaru's one of those characters that you can't help but love. She's got and interesting past and is intriguing overall. Not only is she a sweet, kind girl in her human form, but she's a deadly soldier and makes a kick ass villain while she's at it. She's the best of all three worlds. How could you not love her?
