If you were to describe Sana in two words when you first meet her, it'd be, "REALLY HYPER," because that's exactly what this girl is. She is a complete fireball. Sana has an unlimited amount of energy. She can tape five commercials in one day and still have energy and spirit to keep going and do more, smiling through the whole thing. She believes that a smile is an actress' best feature. That might be one of the reasons everyone loves her. She's always cheerful, talkative, and full of spark. A lot of the times she makes absolutely no sense whatsoever and ends up confusing the people around her, but that's another one of her distinguishing traits. Sana has a way of being completely off-the-wall random. She makes up her own words by mixing words, speaks in different languages randomly in the middle of a conversation, and talks super duper fast and super loud. In this way, she's Hayama's complete opposite. This is stressed a lot throughout the series. Hayama is the silent type. He hardly talks unless it's absolutely necessary, and he never talks loud. In fact, a Hayama-exclamation is more like a low threat. Sana, on the other hand, is living in a state of loud exclamation. :P Sana can't help but butt into other people's business. She's a natural-born leader, she's curious, she's stubborn, and she loves to help others out with their problems. If something doesn't seem right to her, she's most likely to jump right in and try to solve the problem herself. You'll see this happen in the first episode, where she tries to start the class by asking the teacher a question about her homework, and when she alone challenges all the boys to stop their havoc. She's a very physically and emotionally strong girl. She's not afraid to stand up to fight or accept a challenge. At the beginning, when Hayama and Sana were mortal enemies, Hayama admitted that Sana was a formidable opponent. She's not to be taken lightly when she sets her mind to something. Sana also has a bit of a temper. Whenever she gets insulted or frustrated with someone, she yells at them and spazzes out about it, most likely bonking them over the head with a patented Kodocha hammer (tm) or severely maiming them. Hayama is the only one to date that is able to avoid her attacks and keep a straight face while he's doing so, to boot. Along those lines, Sana can also be extremely blunt if she sees that something's wrong with the way things are going. For example, she called Hayama's family stupid ("Oyakadon-Baka!") for being mean to him. She likes to get her point across, and she likes to get it across loud. ^_~ But she's extremely friendly and approachable, a very outgoing, extroverted person, and her intentions are always for the better. Sana is definitely a people person, as she's been working with them all her life. She wears her heart on her sleeve and helps anyone who needs it. She met Rei by picking him off the street when he was homeless, dragging him home with her, much to her mother's dismay. :P Even though Hayama was being cruel to the teachers in Sana's classroom, she went out of the way to not only defeat him at first, but then to get to know him better and help him out of the tough situation with his family. Being busy with work and not having much time for a social life among her friends, Sana doesn't truly have a close girl friend that she can confide in at the beginning of the series. Her first close friend ends up being Hayama as they learn more about each other, and as she helps him out with his family troubles. She's often found apologizing to Hisae, Aya, and her other friends for being unable to come to a party with them, or having to skip more of school to go to another TV shooting. Though she's friends with nearly everyone who comes in contact with her, none of these people she gets truly close to. Her first close girl friend is Fuka, who appears in the second season. Until then, her support comes from her mother and Rei from one side, and Hayama the other. Sana has a mortal weakness, and that is her math skills. She's horrible at the subject; her head starts spinning at the mere mention of it. This weakness is somewhat of a bump in the road for her, in both her academic and acting career. Towards the end of the series, she is hired to do a tape for kids with a tough time in math. When she first started the low-budget project, things were looking bleak; she wasn't even understanding the things in the script, and she was acting as the teacher. However, Fuka helped her out of the tight situation by becoming her math tutor. Fuka and Sana met in the bathroom at school on their first day of junior high, and Sana often refers to her as, "My best friend which I met at the bathroom!" The two are extremely alike, and became instant friends with their first interaction. They're loud, energetic, and hot-headed. However, unlike Sana, Fuka is more down to earth. Her head's not so much in the clouds; she's not so clueless. :P She picks up on things much more keenly than Sana. These include things having to do with love and affection. While Sana is completely oblivious to Hayama's feelings towards her, Fuka is able to see it. She's able to see how well the two get along. Also, compared to Fuka, Sana is much more laid-back. This could be because she's clueless most of the time, but also because it takes more to get Sana truly bent out of shape. Small things may upset Fuka, but Sana lets them pass. The two understand each other rather well, however, being so alike. Fuka especially understands Sana and though they have tough times with their friendship, neither of the girls ever hold any animosity towards the other. In a way, Sana is unable to hold a grudge against anyone. She ends up trying to understand them instead, and can't help but forgive them for whatever they did in the past. She ends up forgiving Hayama for being the "boss" of the boys when they wreaked havoc in the classroom, and for forgiving Rei after she realizes that he never took her idolization of him as a boyfriend seriously, since he was much too old for her but she never picked up on it. Though she was heartbroken and felt utterly humiliated at the time of her realization, she let it pass later on. There isn't one person in the series that Sana has any animosity towards. She gets angry at people, but doesn't bottle up the anger; she lets it explode. And explode she does. She's very honest in that manner, and very unlike Hayama who, though definitely honest, keeps his feelings and opinions to himself at all times. Though Sana is a strong girl, there are times when everyone needs support. Sana doesn't cry very often and usually puts on a cheerful face when she's not feeling all that great. Being an actress, she easily snuffs out her feelings and covers them up with her usually hyper self. She doesn't like to show people that she's sad (she doesn't want people to worry on her account), so she acts cheerful and carefree. She doesn't cry much, and the first person her age who's seen her cry is Hayama, also being the first to see through her act. Though she was smiling on the outside, he was able to see through it and realize that something big was bothering her. She's comfortable around him the most, more than anyone else, even though she doesn't realize it at first. Sana's personality and her relationship with Hayama are the spice to the series. The two being absolutely opposites is complete genius and the way they interact is unlike any other. It's hard to have corny scenes between them, which is what makes the series so unpredictable and fun to watch, since Sana is so comical and Hayama's sarcasm deepens as the series progresses. Unfortunately, Sana is extremely dense, so she has quite a hard time figuring out Hayama's feelings for her. Her dense nature has proven to be a major problem playing in their relationship, as Hayama in return has a hard time confessing his feelings to her directly, the way she needs to hear them to realize his feelings for her. At the beginning, there is very little drama as they both are learning more about each other. But as the series progresses and Sana goes off into the mountains for a full two months of shooting for a movie, certain circumstances drift them apart. Drama ensues. But what would a shoujo anime be without drama? They're one of those couples that you can't imagine being apart, and having them split would be utter devastation. They balance each other out in a way that no one else in the series is able to do for either of them. They're two halves of a whole: Hayama the calmer side which balances out Sana's out-of-control energy. Through the series Sana goes through many things, and gains control over her emotions and words. She gains maturity from occurrences from both her social life and as an actress, as she endures through heavy stuff. By the end of the series, she's a drastically changed individual, and you can definitely see the growth she's gone through. <-- Character Info |
