Naoko Yanagisawa is one of Sakura's close friends from her class, and she's probably the most normal, or plain looking of all of Sakura's friends that we see in CCS. However, you shouldn't let her outer appearance fool you.

Naoko is completely infatuated with the supernatural world and things such as ghosts, monsters, superstitions, and the like. She has a HUGE imagination, and it just about leads her anywhere. In one episode where Sakura was trying to catch the Create card, it fell into Naoko's hands as a book. In the book, the reader becomes the writer, and they are able to write whatever they want. However, Naoko never realizes that the things she writes down in the book become real. All kinds of strange creatures from polka dotted tigers to flying elephants appear, and at the end of the episode, Sakura ends up having to fight a humongous dragon that Naoko created without knowing, before the monster is able to completely destroy Tomoeda.

Naoko in her cheerleading uniformBecause of Naoko's interest in all things out of this world, and because of her huge imagination, she is often very gullible. She completely eats up all the lies and fibs that Yamazaki makes up, without even asking or questioning the things that are happening. She believes in aliens, spirits, and ghosts, and is always ecstatically happy whenever there's a chance of her meeting one. She loves dark, scary places such as caves and is always on the lookout for some kind of strange beings. Naoko is also always completely up to date with all the supernatural gossip that is floating around town, and never misses any rumors that come about.

A lot of the times, Naoko tells her friends about some kind of rumors that she heard, and she ends up completely freaking out Sakura. Sakura is just about the exact opposite of Naoko, because she is terrified of the unknown, and monsters such as ghosts. She just doesn't want anything to do with them. Naoko, on the other hand, is always ready to claim that a strange happening around town is because of a strange, supernatural being or something like that. In one of the episodes, there is a rainstorm in Tomoeda, where the rain doesn't stop for days. Naoko's first theory about it is, "Could this be... a supernatural phenomenon?!" Then she is fooled by one of Yamazaki's many fibs, as he goes on to explain how flying penguins were said to be supernatural phenomenon. ¬¬
