Sonomi Daidouji is Tomoyo's mother who we don't see too often through the series. She's the president of a huge toy manufacturing company, and is therefore extremely busy and doesn't really have time to be around Tomoyo. However, Sonomi loves her daughter very much and is always trying to spend as much time as possible with her, and she tries to support Tomoyo whenever she can.

Sonomi is a very take-charge kind of woman, and she has a bossy and aggressive personality. She hates to lose in anything from business to running races, and is very ambitious to come out on top. She has quite a temper, is very emotional, loud, and she holds grudges.  She has an eternal grudge against Sakura's father Fujitaka Kinomoto for stealing Nadeshiko away from her. Nadeshiko and Sonomi were cousins, and Sonomi always adored Nadeshiko to pieces. It was kind of like the relationship that Tomoyo and Sakura have, and it was as if Sonomi loved Nadeshiko more than just a friend or a cousin. We'll never know for sure, though.

The reason Sonomi feels that Fujitaka stole Nadeshiko from her was that when Fujitaka and Nadeshiko married, Nadeshiko was still only in high school, and Fujitaka was her teacher. Once Nadeshiko graduated from high school, they married and Nadeshiko got a job as a model. However, she got sick, and soon she died. Because of that, Sonomi says that she will never forgive Fujitaka. Sonomi is really harsh towards Fujitaka, but she doesn't truly hate him. She's just sad that her best friend and her cousin was taken away from her and she is also still grieving Nadeshiko's death. She once told Sakura that Fujitaka was an awful person, because he was so kind. So, she truly doesn't hate him, she probably regrets the past and the fact that she wasn't able to spend nearly as much time with Nadeshiko as she could have if Fujitaka wasn't in the picture.

Sonomi is a very caring mother, even if she isn't able to spend as much time with Tomoyo as "normal" mothers would. When Tomoyo lost her voice because of a Clow Card, Sonomi was extremely worried about her, and tried to take as much care of Tomoyo as her job would allow it. It's obvious in the first place that Sonomi is very protective of Tomoyo, especially with all the bodyguards that she's given. Sonomi's love for Nadeshiko also shows through her daughter; the reason that Tomoyo's hair is so long is because Sonomi asked her to grow it out that way, so it would look like Nadeshiko's hair.

One person that Sonomi absolutely adores is Sakura. When she saw Sakura for the first time, she couldn't believe that she was Fujitaka's daughter, but she then realized that Nadeshiko wanted to name her first daughter "Sakura" after her favorite flower. Sonomi always invites Sakura over to drink some tea or come over to Tomoyo's house, and whenever she sees Sakura, she is always reminded of Nadeshiko and she can't help but adore her. Sonomi and Fujitaka also have an unspoken mutual trust between each other, and it really shows when it comes to Sakura. When Sakura was invited to see Sonomi, Fujitaka said to Touya, "Don't worry, I know that Sonomi won't hurt her." Sakura really doesn't know anything about her parents' past, and she doesn't know how Sonomi is connected to her family either, and the only other person who knows is Touya.

Sonomi believes that Fujitaka always ends up beating her in everything, and she says this in the first episode that she appears. When we first meet Sonomi, she and Fujitaka end up running against each other at a race at Sakura's school festival. Both of them are very fast runners: Fujitaka is the fastest runner in the Kinomoto family, and Sonomi was one of the top runners at her high school. All of the other parents in the race dropped out at the beginning, and only Sonomi and Fujitaka were left. Fujitaka ended up beating Sonomi, and that's when Sonomi showed her soft side. She at first started ranting and raving at Fujitaka about how she hated losing to him in everything, as Sakura and Tomoyo were in the bushes watching them. Sakura then used the Flowery card to send both Fujitaka and Sonomi a Nadeshiko flower. Sonomi looked at the flower and said that Nadeshiko was truly only happy when she was with Fujitaka, and always smiled the best when she was with him, and she started to cry. Fujitaka comforted her, but then Sonomi freaked out again, saying that she hated when Fujitaka acted like that.

Sonomi is a very interesting character and adds a really nice touch to the series. Her ecstatic personality is really amusing, and her relationship with the other characters is also very interesting. I really like her character, and also her relationship with Tomoyo. I just wish she would appear more often. :P
